Derek Parra

We are very excited to invite everyone to attend our Annual Leadership Breakfast. Come out for a delicious breakfast, hear about scouting in the Black Hills and get inspired by our guest speaker.Derek Parra grew up with a love and talent for the sport of inline skating. He became the most decorated athlete in the history of inline skating.

A Mexican-American transitioned to the ice at the age of 16. As a long track speed skater, he won multiple medals around the world culmunating in an Olympic gold medal in the 1,500 and silver in the 5,000 in Salt Lake City. Parra continued to compete through the 2006 Winter Olympics and retired as a skater after the Torino Games.

Derek’s book, Reflections in the Ice, chronicles his inspiring journey from his humble beginnings to Olympic glory. Join us for a moving presentation about perserverance in life and in Scouting.
